Warhawks Fall to DII UW-Parkside

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team opened the season with a 28-11 loss to UW-Parkside, a NCAA Division II institution.

Dominick Mallinder, the Warhawks' nationally ranked wrestler at 133 pounds, provided the highlight of the night. In the second bout of the evening, Mallinder racked up the points against the Rangers' Joey Roti registering a 17-1 technical fall in 5:49. Mallinder is ranked ninth nationally at 133 pounds this season.

At 165 pounds, Brayden Peet (Dekalb, Ill./Sycamore) opened his collegiate career with a big win. The freshman topped Brady Schuh by 7-4 decision to narrow the deficit to 8-16.

Gavin Kohel (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) nearly picked up a win at 174 pounds. There was no shortage of action in the first period as Kohel was tied with Crosby Schlosser 4-4 after three minutes. The wrestlers traded escapes to open each of the next two periods and it looked like Kohel would hang on for the win via riding time, but the Rangers were able to register a takedown with just two seconds left for the 8-6 win.

Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) battled for three team points at 197. He picked up two hard-fought takedowns and fended off a few shots from Kaden Hooker in the third period to hold on for the 8-6 win.
