The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team wrapped its 2022-23 home slate with a big 26-10 win over the University of Chicago Saturday morning.
Starting off the dual at 141 pounds,
Dakarai Clay (Madison, Wis./Madison East) set the tone with a 12-4 major decision over Vincent Menozzi.
Jake Burford (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) followed with a 10-6 decision over Ryan Fleck at 149 pounds to give the Warhawks a 7-0 lead.
The Maroons got on the board at 157 pounds as Drew Vlasnik won by 13-4 major decision over
Hunter Rudzinski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford).
Ryan Vedner (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) responded for UWW with a 5-1 decision over Darian Estevez at 165.
Chicago captured their second win of the morning at 174 as Tyler Joseph defeated
Tyler Haydon (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) by 7-1 decision. At 184 pounds,
Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) registered the lone pin of the day, recording the fall in 2:02 over Nolan Pazzobon to extend the Warhawk advantage to 16-7.
An exciting bout at 197 went the Maroons' way as Gunnar Garriques defeated
Evan Danowski (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) by 3-2 decision. UWW ran out the rest of the matches with
Shelby Jones (Dodgeville, Wis./Dodgeville) winning by 2-1 decision over Cole Fibranz at 285,
Tyler Klein (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) winning by 2-1 in a tiebreak over Jake Hamulak at 125, and
Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) taking down Sean Conway by 15-3 major decision at 133.
UWW will travel to a pair of opens next week before wrapping up the regular season at the Don Parker Open hosted by UW-Eau Claire February 4. The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships are slated for February 11 in Stevens Point.
