Eleven members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team have been recognized as Scholastic All-America by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Seniors
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley) and
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore), juniors
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral),
Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), Faity Mylin, and
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central), sophomore
Sarah Knetzke (Ozark, Mo./Springfield Catholic) and
Ashlyn Vlcko (Plover, Wis./SPASH), and freshmen
Alayna Fern (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville),
Gracie Talley (Collierville, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian), and
Richella Velarmino (Bonney Lake, Wash./John R. Rogers) all achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale to earn Scholastic All-America honors. North garnered the accolades all four years as a Warhawk while Lewellen, McEntire, McGinley, Mylin and Stelmachowki are three-time honorees, and Knetzke secured recognition for the second time. McEntire was one of the 228 out of more than 1,500 student-athletes recognized to register a 4.00 grade point average last year.
North was selected Second Team Academic All-America At-Large and First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America for 2021-2022. The senior posted a career-best 38.600 to claim the national title in the all-around at the 2022 championships.
The Warhawks were the 2021 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional runner-up prior to finishing fifth in the 2021 NCGA Championship. Knetzke also captured an individual national title after registering the second-best score on the balance beam in program history, 9.875, at the national meet.
