UW-Whitewater Athletics Reveals 2022 Hall of Fame Class

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced its 57th Hall of Fame Class.
 
Former student-athletes Justin Beaver '08, Megan Kielar Carstens '06, Gary Garcia '08, Aaron Henderson '05, Lisa McManus Kemps '03, Ryan Kleppe '08, Carlene Polk '08 and Lisa Irons Prien '04 will be inducted. Former head men's and women's soccer coach Greg Henschel will be inducted under the category of staff/coach, and longtime Warhawk supporter Tom Harty will be posthumously inducted for his distinguished service to the institution.
 
All 10 individuals will be recognized for their contributions to Warhawk Athletics as part of the UW-Whitewater football team's game against UW-River Falls on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. Inductees will be part of the Homecoming Parade, which begins at 10 a.m., and be honored at halftime of the football game and at the annual Hall of Fame banquet, which begins following the contest at 4:30 p.m. at the University Center's Hamilton Room.

Justin Beaver Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Justin Beaver competed for the UW-Whitewater football team as a running back from 2004-07. The Palmyra native was a three-time first team All-American, two-time Gagliardi Trophy finalist and three-year first team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, helping the Warhawks earn three conference titles, two national runner-up finishes and the 2007 national championship, the first in program history. As a senior in 2007, he was named WIAC Player of the Year, WIAC Football Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete, D3football.com Offensive Player of the Year and winner of the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy, the Division III equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, while totaling school records in rushing attempts (444) and yards (2,455). Beaver later earned spots on the WIAC All-Time Team, which was created as part of the league's Centennial celebration in 2012, and D3football's 2000s All-Decade first team. One of the most decorated student-athletes in program history, Beaver currently ranks second all time in rushing attempts (1,118) and yards (6,584), third in rushing touchdowns (44) and fifth in average yards per carry (5.89). He graduated with a bachelor's in physical education (K-12) in 2008.
Megan Kielar Carstens Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Megan Kielar Carstens was a member of the UW-Whitewater women's cross country and track and field programs from 2002-06. She was a three-time All-American in track and field in the 800-meter run and five-time national qualifier in indoor and outdoor track, a two-time national qualifier in cross country and a 2006 Academic All-America® third team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Megan holds school records in the indoor 1-mile run (5:02.79) and the cross country 6-kilometer race (21:41.7) and collected six All-WIAC honors in the two sports combined in her career. At the time of her graduation, Megan held school records in both the indoor 800-meter run (2:12.60) and the outdoor 800-meter run (2:11.13). In 2005-06, she was named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete in both cross country and indoor track and field. A graduate of McHenry West High School in McHenry, Ill., Megan graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in elementary education in 2006.
Gary Garcia Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Gary Garcia was a two-time All-American for the UW-Whitewater men's cross country team from 2002-05. He qualified three times for the NCAA Championship, placing ninth in 2004 and 33rd in 2005. Garcia also finished 150th in 2003, when the Warhawks qualified as a team and finished 17th. He is one of five WIAC individual champions in program history, finishing first at the conference meet in 2004, and was a two-time first team All-WIAC honoree. Garcia also competed for the men's track and field team from 2005-07, earning a pair of second team All-WIAC accolades in 2007 and posting three marks that rank among the top 10 personal records in program history. The Kenosha native and Tremper High School graduate earned his bachelor's in physical education (health, human performance and recreation) in 2008.
Aaron Henderson Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Aaron Henderson was a standout triple jumper for the UW-Whitewater men's track and field program between 2002-05. He recorded four All-America performances in the triple jump during his career, claiming the indoor national title in the event in 2005 to lead the team to a tie for seventh at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Henderson was a three-time WIAC champion and a four-time all-conference performer in the triple jump during his career. A Madison native and graduate of Madison West High School, Henderson graduated with a degree in sociology in 2005.
Lisa McManus Kemps Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Lisa McManus Kemps was recognized at both the conference level and the national level during her career with the UW-Whitewater gymnastics team from 1999-2002. The Milwaukee native and Thomas More High School graduate is the program's first-ever Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, winning the balance beam as a senior in 2002. The first four-year national qualifier in program history, Kemps collected All-America honors in 2000 after placing ninth in the all-around competition at the national meet. She is a part of numerous top 20 performances for all event team scores when only four scores were counted. Kemps graduated with a degree in psychology in 2003.

Ryan Kleppe was a defensive lineman for two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship teams and two national runners-up during his four-year career with the UW-Whitewater football team from 2003-06. As a senior in 2006, Kleppe garnered D3football.com Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-America, WIAC Football Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete and first team All-WIAC accolades and was named a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, the Division III equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. He finished his career as a two-time All-American and three-time first team All-WIAC honoree. He totaled 30 sacks, third-most in program history, and currently ranks among the top five in WIAC history in both sacks and tackles for loss (64). The Mount Horeb native was later selected to the WIAC All-Time Team, which was created in 2012 as part of the league's Centennial celebration, and to the D3football.com 2000s All-Decade first team. He graduated with a bachelor's in physical education (K-12) in 2008.
Carley Polk Hall of Fame head shot 2022 Carlene Polk was a part of three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championships, two conference tournament titles, four NCAA Tournament appearances, three trips to the NCAA Championship round and the volleyball program's second-ever national championship (2005) during her career from 2004-07. In 2007, she earned WIAC Player of the Year, first team All-WIAC, first team All-Region and first team All-America honors after leading the Warhawks to a sweep of the conference regular season and tournament titles and a national runner-up finish. One year earlier, the middle hitter helped UW-Whitewater win the WIAC Tournament championship and reach the national semifinals, earning a spot on the 2006 NCAA Division III Championship All-Tournament Team in addition to garnering first team all-conference, first team all-region and second team All-America accolades. A graduate of Mukwonago High School, Polk ranks among the program's top 10 all time in career blocks (573), kills (1,354) and hitting percentage (.300). She earned her degree in geography (geology) from UW-Whitewater in 2008.
Lisa Irons Prien Hall of Fame head shot 2022 Lisa Irons Prien was a four-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic selection for the UW-Whitewater golf team during her four-year career from 2000-04. She is one of five All-Americans in program history, collecting honorable mention from the National Golf Coaches Association in 2003. Prien reached the NCAA Championship for the second time in her career during the 2003-04 season, when she was named first team All-WIAC and collected the WIAC Golf Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete award. She finished her career ranked among the top three in program history in best 18-hole score (75) and best 36-hole score (155). A native of Neenah, Prien graduated with a degree in general management in 2004.
Greg Henschel Hall of Fame head shot 2022 Greg Henschel served as head men's soccer coach at UW-Whitewater from 1999-2011 and as head women's soccer coach from 2000-11. During his tenure, the Warhawk men claimed three straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships from 2009-11 and reached the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including Round of 16 appearances in 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2010. A two-time WIAC Men's Coach of the Year, Henschel finished his run with a 164-68-20 record (.690 winning percentage), including a 14-0-2 mark in conference play. As head coach of the Warhawk women, Henschel built the program into a perennial winner, leading UW-W to its first-ever WIAC championship in 2010 and its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2011, when the team won its second straight conference title and reached the NCAA Round of 16. He coached the program's first-ever All-American, was named WIAC Coach of the Year in 2011 and tallied a 126-90-13 record (.579), including a 53-35-8 mark in WIAC play.
Tom Harty Hall of Fame head shot 2022
Tom Harty served as one of the most ardent supporters of Warhawk men's and women's teams for nearly three decades. In addition to attending multiple athletic events on campus, Harty brokered partnerships in the community to support athletic activities, fan buses, banquets and awards. He was a past president of the Tip-Off Club (men's basketball) and Quarterback Club (football), was a member of several other athletics booster clubs and was a regular participant in the department's various golf outing fundraisers. Harty played an integral role in the growth of the Warhawk Auction Raffle, which is one of the largest single fundraisers on campus. Harty passed away in 2017.
