The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team posted its ninth sweep of the season Friday with a 9-0 victory at Principia (Ill.).
The Warhawks (16-1 overall), who will compete away from home for their final six duals of the regular season, took all three doubles matches to start the dual with a 3-0 advantage.
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) put UW-W on the board with an 8-2 triumph at No. 1.
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and
Niclas Goltz (Freiburg, Germany/Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium) combined for an 8-4 win at No. 3 and
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at No. 2.
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) claimed the first match in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the third position and
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) clinched the dual with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fourth slot.
Zakowski and Lindwall each tallied victories in super tiebreakers at the first and second positions, respectively.
Josh Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) collected a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the fifth spot and
Ridley Aranda (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) led 6-0, 2-0 in his match at No. 6 before winning by retirement.
UW-Whitewater visits No. 6 Washington-St. Louis Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
