Women’s Basketball This Week Presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites Whitewater (Feb. 7-13)

The No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team plays a pair of home games this week as it closes in on a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship.
 
The Warhawks (20-2 overall, 10-1 WIAC), who lead UW-Eau Claire by two games in the conference standings with three games to play, host UW-Platteville Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Play4Kay Night presented by UW Credit Union at Kachel Gymnasium. All fans are invited to join the team in wearing pink for breast cancer awareness.
 
UW-W wraps up the week Saturday against UW-Stout at 3 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium. Courtney Oomens (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger), Rebekah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) and Johanna Taylor (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) will be recognized on Senior Day presented by Educators Credit Union.
 
Both games will air live on UWW-TV on channel 100.1 on campus, Spectrum channel 989 for customers in the Whitewater area and online at uwwtv.org. Wednesday's game can also be heard live on 940 AM WFAW in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com.
 
On Saturday, UW-Whitewater led nearly wire to wire and by double digits for a majority of the second half on its way to a 63-54 victory at UW-River Falls. Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) tallied a game-high 23 points to lead UW-W, which held the Falcons to 36.5 percent shooting in the contest. Taylor added nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
 
Earlier in the week, Schumacher knocked down a go-ahead jumper with six seconds to play and blocked a potential game-winning jumper on the other end during the Warhawks' 56-54 win against UW-La Crosse last Wednesday at Kachel Gymnasium. UW-W held the Eagles to 30 percent shooting and five made two-point field goals in the contest. Kacie Carollo (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) paced the Warhawks with 14 points.
 
Wednesday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m. – vs. UW-Platteville, Play4Kay presented by UW Credit Union

UW-Platteville (9-12, 2-9) has lost nine straight games entering the week, including a 75-72 setback against UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. The Pioneers committed only nine turnovers in the contest but were held to 38.6 percent shooting from the floor and were outscored 25-16 in the fourth quarter after taking the lead with a 30-22 advantage in the third.
 
Maiah Domask averages a double-double with 17.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, leading the conference in both categories. She also shoots 50 percent from the floor and is second on the team with 29 steals. Sarah Mueller averages 9.0 points per game on 46.1 percent shooting, and Taylor Gilbert averages 8.1 points per outing and leads UWP with 25 blocks.
 
On Jan. 12, the Warhawks ended the game on an 11-2 run to come away with a 62-53 triumph in Platteville. Grundahl collected 24 points to lead UW-W, which held UW-Platteville to 39.6 percent shooting, including 30.8 percent in the fourth quarter, and forced 21 turnovers.
 
UW-Whitewater leads the all-time series between the two teams by a 72-25 margin and has won the last 13 games.
 
Saturday, Feb. 12, 3 p.m. – vs. UW-Stout, Senior Day presented by Educators Credit Union (TV: UWW-TV)
 
UW-Stout (12-8, 7-3) swept a pair of WIAC games last week, including Saturday's 58-56 win against UW-Oshkosh. Lizzy Olsem converted a go-ahead layup with nine seconds left and the Blue Devils made a defensive stop on the other end to preserve the victory. UWS shot 7-for-11 in the fourth quarter and held the Titans to 25 percent shooting on the other end.
 
Entering the week, Amanda Giesen and Raegan Sorensen rank among the top 10 in the league in scoring with 12.7 and 12.6 points per game, respectively. Both are shooting more than 49 percent from the floor. UW-Stout boasts one of the top offenses in the WIAC, averaging 69.0 points per game, good for the second-most in the conference entering the week.
 
The Warhawks knocked down 8-of-8 from the free-throw line over the final 1:03 of regulation to preserve a 58-53 win at UW-Stout on Dec. 4 in Menomonie. Maggie Trautsch (Sun Prairie, Wis./DeForest) finished with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists and Carollo tallied a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
UW-Whitewater holds a 54-30 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams, including a 31-11 edge at home, and has won the last seven games.
 
UW-Stout hosts UW-Eau Claire Wednesday night before making the trip to Whitewater on Saturday.
