The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team finished off its regular season without a loss to a Division III opponent with a 191.525-188.200 victory against UW-Stout in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks tied the No. 6 score in the program record book on vault with a 48.150.
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley) continued her strong performance in 2022 by tying the fifth-highest score in program history and establishing her personal best with a 9.800, good for first place overall.
Kara Welsh (Plainfield, Ill./Central) finished third with a 9.650 and was followed by
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) and
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral), who tied for fourth with matching personal record scores of 9.625.
Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) rounded out UW-W scoring with a 9.450, good for a tie for seventh.
UW-Whitewater continued the meet on uneven bars and finished with a 47.275.
Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) collected a 9.600 to win the event. Stelmachowski placed third with a 9.525,
Richella Velarmino (Bonney Lake, Wash./John R. Rogers) tied for fourth with a 9.450 and
Mia Falcone (Winter Springs, Fla./Seven Oaks Preparatory) and
Estee Flom (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) tied for sixth with matching 9.350s.
The Warhawks' third rotation sent the team to balance beam, where it registered the third-highest score in the team's all-time record book, a 48.350, the highest of the season.
Sarah Knetzke (Ozark, Mo./Springfield Catholic) tied the No. 4 score in program history in her debut meet with a 9.775. She was followed by
Lauren Goble (Aurora, Colo./Legend), who tied for third with a 9.725, good for a career best and a tie for the No. 23 score in the program record book.
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) placed fifth with a 9.700, Kollhoff tied for sixth with a 9.625 and McGinley finished ninth with a 9.525.
UW-Whitewater finished the meet with a 47.750 on floor exercise, sweeping the top two spots and taking four of the top six in the event. Kollhoff tallied a 9.700 to finish first, North earned a 9.650 to place second and McGinley tied for third with a 9.575. Welsh tied for fifth with a 9.550 and
Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) scored a 9.275 to finish ninth.
Prior to the start of the meet, UW-Whitewater recognized its alumni and 2021 All-Americans. After the completion of the meet, the team honored Lewellen, McEntire and North as part of Senior Day presented by Educators Credit Union.
The WIAC Championship/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional is set for next Saturday, March 5, at 4 p.m. at Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater.
