The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team remained unbeaten in competition against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents Friday night by placing first at a quadrangular meet hosted by UW-Eau Claire.
The Warhawks scored a 189.700 to finish more than three points ahead of runner-up Winona State.
UW-Whitewater swept the top three spots and took four of the top five on uneven bars, its first event of the meet, and finished with a team score of 47.000.
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) tallied a 9.600, her third straight score of 9.550 or above, to place first.
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) finished as runner-up with a season-best 9.500 and was followed by
Estee Flom (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek), who placed third with a 9.450.
Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) tied for fourth with a 9.300, and
Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) tallied a 9.150 to finish eighth.
The Warhawks recorded their highest score of the night on balance beam with a 47.850, good for the No. 11 team score in program history. North led a group of three UW-W gymnasts in the top four with a season-high 9.725, good for first place.
Lauren Goble (Aurora, Colo./Legend) tied for second with a 9.625, while Kollhoff finished fourth with a 9.600, her third straight of 9.6 or higher.
Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) tied for eighth with matching 9.450s.
UW-Whitewater registered a 47.450 on floor exercise and was led by Mylin, who continued her consistency in the event with a first-place score of 9.675, her sixth straight above a 9.6. North collected her fourth consecutive score of 9.6 or higher with a 9.600, good for third place. Kollhoff tied for sixth with a 9.525,
Kara Welsh (Plainfield, Ill./Central) placed ninth with a 9.500 and
Richella Velarmino (Bonney Lake, Wash./John R. Rogers) contributed a 9.150 to finish 17th.
The Warhawks closed the meet with a 47.400 on vault and were led by Welsh and
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley), who tied for third with matching 9.550s. Neither gymnast has finished below a 9.5 in the event this season. McGinley (9.500) and Kollhoff (season-best 9.475) placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Mylin recorded a 9.325 to finish 10th.
North and Kollhoff finished 1-2 in the all-around competition with scores of 38.100 and 37.900, respectively, tying Kollhoff's season high. Mylin placed fifth with a 37.125.
UW-Whitewater closes the regular season next Saturday, Feb. 26, against UW-Stout at 4 p.m. on All-American Day, Alumni Day and Senior Day presented by Educators Credit Union at Russell Arena. The team will also recognize the 10th anniversary of the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championship and the fifth anniversary of the 2017 national title.
