The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team closed out the regular season Wednesday night with a 60-57 loss at UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Warhawks (22-3 overall, 12-2 WIAC), who last week clinched the conference regular season championship for the third time in five years, are expected to be the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, which begins with first-round games this Friday and continues next week. The tournament bracket is set to be revealed late Wednesday evening.

Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) totaled a team-high 12 points, while Veronica Kieres (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Yssa Sto. Domingo (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward) collected nine points and five rebounds off the bench and Rebekah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) recorded eight points.

The Titans (18-5, 7-4) shot 16-of-23 from the free-throw line, including 9-of-15 in the second half, while UW-Whitewater made 9-of-10 at the free-throw line.

The game was tied 8-8 midway through the first quarter before the Warhawks closed the period on an 11-4 run. Kieres' 3-pointer in the final seconds gave UW-W a 19-12 advantage.

UW-Whitewater led by as many as nine in the second, but UW-Oshkosh closed to within 27-25 just past the midway point of the quarter. UW-W held a 33-28 advantage by halftime.

The Warhawks led by four with 4:41 left in the third before scoring seven of the last nine points of the quarter, including a 3-pointer by Schumacher, for a 46-37 advantage.

Schumacher's jumper gave UW-Whitewater an 11-point lead early in the fourth, and Kacie Carollo's (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) 3-pointer made it 51-41 with 7:01 to play. From there, the Titans embarked on an 11-0 run, taking their first lead of the half with 3:46 on the clock.

Maggie Trautch knocked down a 3-pointer to bring the Warhawks within one with 1:20 to go, but UW-Oshkosh hit a pair of free throws in the final 17 seconds and held UW-W scoreless over its final three possessions of the contest.
