The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team recorded a second consecutive top 15 all-time team score Friday night as it defeated UW-La Crosse 191.650-189.250 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks' team score, their second straight over 190, ranks as the 13th-highest in the team record book.
UW-Whitewater started the meet on vault, posting a team score of 47.600.
Kara Welsh (Plainfield, Ill./Central) tied for first in the event to lead UW-W with a 9.675, her fifth score of the year above a 9.5.
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley) recorded her fifth score above a 9.6 of the season with a 9.625, good for third place.
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) tallied a 9.450 to place fifth, and
Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) and
Alayna Fern (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) tied for sixth with matching 9.425s.
The Warhawks continued the meet on uneven bars, taking six of the top nine spots and finishing with a 47.900, the team's second highest mark of the season.
Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) repeated her performance from last Friday, matching her season best with a 9.775, good for first place and a tie of the No. 10 score in program history.
Richella Velarmino (Bonney Lake, Wash./John R. Rogers) placed second with a 9.700, while
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) tied for fourth with a 9.550.
Estee Flom (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) registered a 9.450 to finish seventh, and North collected a 9.425 to place eighth.
UW-Whitewater compiled its second-highest event score of the night on balance beam with a 47.900, which ranks 11th in program history. Kollhoff and North tied for second with matching scores of 9.650, which is a season best for North.
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) tied her personal record with a 9.575, good for sixth overall, while Mylin totaled 9.550 to finish seventh.
Lauren Goble (Aurora, Colo./Legend) placed ninth with her 9.475.
The Warhawks closed the meet with their best event score, a 48.250 on floor exercise, tied for the No. 13 mark in the UW-W record book. UW-Whitewater swept the top three individual spots and was led by North, who won the event with a career-best 9.800, tied for the 10th-highest score in program history. McGinley entered the team's all-time top 25 with a personal record 9.775, good for second place, while Mylin finished third with a 9.750, her third straight result of 9.7 or higher. Welsh tied for seventh with a 9.525 and Kollhoff placed 10th with a 9.400.
North won the all-around competition with a 38.325, just one tenth off her career record and good for a top 25 mark all time. Mylin finished second with a 37.825.
The Warhawks visit UW-Eau Claire next Friday, Feb. 18, for a tri-meet against the host Blugolds and Winona State starting at 6 p.m.
