Free Throws Pivotal in Warhawk Win

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team used the free throw line to their advantage in an 83-67 win over Olivet College Saturday afternoon.

The difference in the game came from the charity stripe as the Warhawks turned 27 fouls drawn in 24-34 from the free throw line. UWW was whistled for just 13 fouls with the Comets knocking down 5-7 of their free opportunities in the contest.

The first half was fast-paced with each team shooting over 50-percent from the floor. UW-Whitewater led for over half of the first period using a late eight-point run to take an eight-point advantage into halftime, 47-39.

Warhawk forward Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) took over in the second half hitting 7-9 from the floor and both of his shots from beyond the arc for 17 points in the half. He also led all players with nine rebounds in over 16 minutes of second half action.

UWW continued to extend their lead throughout the half, leading by as many as 18 with under three minutes to go before securing the 16-point win. The free throw discrepancy was even more pronounced in the second half with the Warhawks hitting 15-20 while Olivet was 3-5.

Chislom led all players with 21 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double. Jameer Barker (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) dropped in 17 while Delvin Barnstable (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Lutheran) posted 12 and Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added 11. Drew Fisher (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) joined Chislom with game-high rebound honors with nine. JT Hoytink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) put in nearly 17 minutes of solid action running the offense dishing out a team-high four assists.
