The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team dropped their home opener 72-68 to Hope College Wednesday evening.

The game came down to free throws. Both squads registered 22 field goals and dropped in four triples but the Flying Dutchmen posted a 24-20 advantage from the charity stripe.

The Warhawks opened up an 11-point lead shooting over 46-percent from the floor in the first half. The defense held Hope to just 27-percent from the field to head into the locker room with a 41-30 lead.

Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led all players in the first half with 14 points on 5-6 from the field, 1-1 from beyond the arc and 3-4 from the charity stripe.

UW-Whitewater hit 13-15 from the line in the first half before cooling down in the second half. The Warhawks were just 7-14 in the final 20 minutes while Hope flipped the script and hit 13-15 down the stretch. The Flying Dutchmen were on fire in the second hitting 65-percent from the field while the Warhawks efficiency dropped to 32-percent.

Capstran posted a game-high 22 on 8-12 from the floor adding a team-high eight rebounds.
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) joined Capstran in double figures with 15 and 14 points respectively.
