Men’s Basketball This Week Presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites Whitewater (Jan. 3-9)

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team plays its first two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road games this week.
 
The Warhawks (9-4 overall, 2-0 WIAC) visit No. 5 UW-Oshkosh Wednesday at 7 p.m. before heading to UW-Eau Claire Saturday for a 5 p.m. contest against the Blugolds.

UW-Whitewater played two games last week at the Emory Holiday Classic in Atlanta to finish up the non-conference slate. The team started the trip Dec. 29 with a 91-70 setback against Emory. Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) tallied a team-high 15 points to lead UW-W, which was held to 38 percent shooting in the game and trailed 52-27 at halftime.
 
One day later, the Warhawks closed the tournament with an 89-63 triumph against LaGrange (Ga.). The team held the Panthers to 32.4 percent shooting, including a 25.7 percent clip in the first half as it took a 46-26 halftime advantage. Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) collected 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals, and Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) and JT Hoytink (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) each registered 16 points.
 
Wednesday, Jan. 5, 7 p.m. – at UW-Oshkosh
 
UW-Oshkosh (12-1, 2-0) has won nine straight games as conference play resumes, finishing off a 6-0 December with an 86-59 win against Ripon at the BSN Winter Classic on Dec. 30 in Oshkosh. Eddie Muench totaled 23 points to pace UWO, which shot 54.2 percent from the floor and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from 3-point range.
 
Levi Borchert is averaging a double-double with 17.0 points and 10.9 rebounds per contest while shooting 61.4 percent from the field. Muench (16.1 ppg) and Hunter Plamann (13.8 ppg) also average double figures in scoring.
 
The Warhawks dropped their lone meeting against the Titans during the shortened 2020-21 season, falling 78-59 on Feb. 12 inside Kachel Gymnasium. Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) and Gage Malensek (Brookfield, Wis./Central) scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead UW-W, which was limited to 41.0 percent shooting in the game.
 
Saturday, Jan. 8, 5 p.m. – at UW-Eau Claire
 
UW-Eau Claire (8-5, 1-1) is coming off its second loss in the last three games, a 68-60 setback against St. Olaf on Dec. 30 at home. Michael Casper totaled a team-high 14 points for UWEC, which was limited to 38.3 percent shooting from the floor and outscored 38-24 in the opening half.
 
Brock Voigt leads the Blugolds in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebounding (7.5 per game), blocks (16) and field goal percentage (63.7). Casper also averages double figures in scoring with 11.8 points per outing on 51.4 percent shooting, and Spencer Page shoots 46.2 percent from 3-point range on his way to 10.7 points per affair.
 
UW-Whitewater and UW-Eau Claire did not play during the abbreviated 2020-21 season. The Warhawks were defeated 49-47 in their most recent meeting with the Blugolds back on Feb. 15, 2020, at Kachel Gymnasium. Chislom was one of two players in double figures in scoring with 10 points for UW-W, which held UWEC to 33.3 percent shooting but was limited to 36 percent shooting on the other end.
 
The Blugolds host No. 3 ranked UW-Platteville on Wednesday before welcoming the Warhawks to Zorn Arena on Saturday.
