The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team suffered its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss of the season Saturday, falling 76-50 at UW-River Falls.
The Warhawks (11-5 overall, 4-1 WIAC) were limited to 38.9 percent shooting, including a 30.8 percent clip in the second half.
The Falcons (8-6, 1-4) shot 54.7 percent from the field and 9-of-20 from 3-point range.
Carter Capstran (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) posted 15 points and five rebounds to lead UW-W.
Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while
Elijah Lambert (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) collected 11 points and two steals.
Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) registered eight points, three rebounds and two assists, and
Drew Fisher (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) recorded six points.
UW-River Falls held a 16-8 advantage through six minutes of action before UW-Whitewater narrowed its deficit to three on Fisher's 3-pointer with 11:07 remaining in the half. The Falcons led 27-21 four minutes later before the Warhawks scored nine straight points for a 30-27 advantage with 4:23 on the clock following a layup by Lambert.
The Falcons responded with a 9-0 run before Capstran brought UW-W to within one possession with a 3-pointer on the team's final possession of the period.
After Capstran opened scoring in the second half with a jumper, UW-River Falls scored eight straight points for a 44-35 lead with 17:30 to go.
From there, the Warhawks got no closer than seven. The Falcons put the game out of reach with a 12-2 run for a 74-55 lead with 4:30 left in the contest.
UW-Whitewater hosts No. 11 UW-La Crosse Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
