The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team wrapped up its 2021 season Saturday with a 188.050-186.975 victory over UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet at Kachel Gymnasium.
Seniors
Vanessa Olinger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) and
Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) were recognized for their career achievements after competing in their final meet as Warhawks. The duo helped UW-Whitewater win the 2018 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association national championship in 2018 and record three straight top-three finishes in the WIAC from 2018-20.
Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) won vault with a personal-record score of 9.575 as the Warhawks scored a 47.250 in the event. Wilson,
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Wilson scored a 9.475, McEntire posted a 9.450 and North tallied a 9.425.
Kelsey Kollhoff (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) placed ninth with a 9.325.
UW-Whitewater continued on the uneven bars and totaled a 46.950. Wilson led the team and finished second with a season-high 9.550.
Estee Flom (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) placed fourth with a 9.425, and North and
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) tied for sixth with matching 9.375s. McEntire finished with a 9.225 to tie for ninth.
Wilson and
Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) placed first and second, respectively, on balance beam, where the Warhawks collected a team score of 45.900. Wilson registered a 9.600, and Mylin recorded a 9.400. North finished sixth with a 9.100, Sabol placed seventh with an 8.950, and
Lauren Goble (Aurora, Colo./Legend) tied for eighth with an 8.850.
McGinley claimed her second event of the day with a career-best 9.675 on floor exercise, where UW-Whitewater scored a 47.950, its highest of the night for an event. Mylin and Sabol tied for third with a 9.600, which matched Mylin's high for the season and was a season best for Sabol. Wilson and Olinger finished their careers with scores of 9.550 and 9.525, respectively. Wilson placed sixth, and Olinger finished seventh.
Wilson won the all-around competition with a 38.175, and Mylin tied for second with a 37.375.
