The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team takes on its second straight nationally-ranked opponent this week when it faces No. 11 UW-Platteville this Wednesday and Friday for Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games.

UW-W (1-2 overall, 1-2 WIAC) makes the return trip to Platteville Friday for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Links to live coverage are located on the UW-Whitewater men's basketball schedule page.

After last Wednesday's game at UW-Oshkosh was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, the Warhawk hosted the 12th-ranked Titans Friday, falling 78-59 at Kachel Gymnasium. Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) tallied a team-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting off the bench, and Gage Malensek (Brookfield, Wis./Central) totaled 12 points and four rebounds. John Ittounas (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) posted a season-high nine points off the bench for UW-W, which committed only seven turnovers for the game but was held to 30 percent shooting during the first half and 41.0 percent for the game.

UW-Platteville (3-1, 3-1) swept UW-Stevens Point in two games last week, with both games decided by five points or fewer. On Wednesday, the Pioneers took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Logan Pearson with 32 seconds left during a 74-72 win in Stevens Point. Two days later, UW-P held advantages on points in the paint (36-24) and made free throws (18-11) to defeat the Pointers 73-68 in Platteville.

Justin Stovall leads the Pioneers in scoring (17.3 points per game) and rebounding (7.3 per game), and is shooting 69.2 percent from the floor. Quentin Shields leads the team in assists (3.3 per game) and is averaging 15.8 points per game. Pearson (10.5 ppg) and Kyle Tuma (10.0) are also averaging double figures in scoring.

Last season, UW-Platteville swept the season series between the two teams. UW-Whitewater had the ball with under 10 seconds to play but was unable to get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded in a 70-68 home loss. Breontae Hunt (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) tallied 14 points and eight rebounds, and Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) posted 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

The Pioneers hold a slim 110-107 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The Warhawks are 29-15 against UW-Platteville under head coach Pat Miller.
