The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team finished with a 1-1 record in two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference duals contested Friday at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks (3-1 overall, 3-1 WIAC) downed UW-Platteville by a 37-6 score after falling against No. 5 UW-La Crosse by a 40-4 tally.
In the match against UW-Platteville (0-3, 0-3), UW-Whitewater's only loss came via forfeit as it rolled to a win.
Dylan Uzumecki (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) highlighted the dual with a pin in the second period at 285 pounds, improving to 3-1 on the year with the victory.
Dakarai Clay (Madison, Wis./Madison East) posted a technical fall at 141 pounds, and Jarrit Shinhoster and
Josh Nowak (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) collected major decisions against their opponents at 174 and 197 pounds, respectively.
Winners by decision included
Ethan Pogorzelski (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) at 133,
Josiah Lynden (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) at 149 and
Jake Burford (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) at 157. Wrestling up one weight class, Burford improved his season record to 4-0.
Against UW-La Crosse (3-0, 3-0),
Jake Burford (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) accounted for the Warhawks' lone points, defeating Sam Wenzel by major decision to improve to 3-0 for the season.
The Warhawks host UW-Oshkosh to wrap up the season next Friday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. inside Russell Arena.
