The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team earned two spots in the singles quarterfinals and one spot in the doubles semifinals Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.
No. 2 seed
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and No. 10
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) are on to the quarterfinals in singles. Zakowski topped opponents from Gustavus Adolphus and Grinnell, while Lindwall posted straight-set wins against two players from Gustavus Adolphus.
Zakowski and
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) are one win away from a berth in the ITA Cup later this month. The second-seeded duo recorded victories over No. 9 Gustavus Adolphus and No. 6 Carleton on Saturday to reach the semifinals, where they'll face No. 5 Gustavus Adolphus.
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) saw their run end in the quarterfinals, falling against fifth-seeded Gustavus Adolphus following a pair of wins, including one against No. 4 seed Coe.
Singles play begins Sunday at 9 a.m. with quarterfinals and continues with semifinals at 12 p.m. Doubles semifinals are scheduled for 2 p.m.
