The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team advanced three singles players and three doubles pairs to the Round of 32 Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Invitational at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.
No. 5 seed
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest), No. 10
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and No. 16
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) all moved past the first two rounds to lead the Warhawks. Lindwall and Mitchell were each straight-set winners in their first two matches, while Zakowski dropped his first set in the Round of 64 before recovering for a victory against UW-Eau Claire.
Zakowski and
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville), the No. 2 seeded doubles team, earned a bye to the Round of 32 and will compete in their first match Saturday. Lindwall and Mitchell, the No. 9 seeded combination, topped UW-Eau Claire in the first round.
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) also advanced, besting St. Olaf 8-7 in the opening round.
Tournament play resumes Saturday at 9 a.m.
