The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team continued competition against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents Saturday afternoon against UW-Stout at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks celebrated Alumni Day and Parents/10.0 Club Day, and recognized their four National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Academic All-Americans from 2019 –
Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon),
Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington),
Abby Helmke (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and
Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts).
UW-Whitewater posted a season-high score of 187.625, while the Blue Devils finished with a 188.800.
The Warhawks recorded a 47.700 on vault to start the meet. Senior
Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) registered a season-high 9.700 to lead the team and place second in the event. Sophomore
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) tied for fifth at 9.550, and junior
Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) and freshman
Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) tied for seventh with matching 9.525s. Freshman
Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) rounded out the team's top five with a 9.400, good for 11th overall.
UW-Whitewater finished with three of the top four scores on uneven bars to collect 45.850 points during the second rotation. Wilson finished as runner-up with a season-high 9.575, and North and senior
Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) tallied 9.425s to tie for third. Freshman
Morgan McEntire (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) placed ninth with an 8.900, and freshman
Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) finished 11th with an 8.525.
The Warhawks totaled 46.125 team points on balance beam, taking three of the top five spots. North paced the team and finished third with a season-best 9.500, Marshall placed fourth with a 9.450 and Mylin put up a 9.350 to place fifth. Freshman
Karina Sabol (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) finished eighth at 8.925, and Fossum earned ninth place with an 8.900.
UW-Whitewater finished the meet with its highest score in any event, a 47.950 on floor exercise. Junior
Vanessa Olinger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tied for first with a career-high 9.700 and led a group of Warhawks who took four of the top five slots. Sabol placed third with a 9.650, and Mylin and Wilson tied for fourth at 9.625, a career high for Mylin.
Wilson placed second in the all-around with a season-best 37.225, and Mylin also recorded a season high with a 36.725, good for third place.
UW-Whitewater heads to the annual Midwest Twisters Harley-Davidson Invite on Friday at 7 p.m. The tri-meet includes the Warhawks, Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) and UW-Oshkosh. UW-W gymnasts will wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
