Gymnastics Wins WIAC Dual on the Road

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team earned its third victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating UW-Eau Claire 180.900-173.900 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet in Eau Claire, Wis.
 
Junior Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) tallied a 37.200 to claim the all-around competition and lead the Warhawks. Freshman Faith Mylin (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) posted a 36.575 in the all-around competition to place second.
 
UW-Whitewater swept the top three places on uneven bars and totaled a 44.825 in the event. Wilson recorded a 9.275, sophomore Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) finished as runner-up with her 9.175 and freshman Taiya Stelmachowski (Plainfield, Ill./Central) placed third with her 9.100. Mylin tied for fourth with an 8.850 and senior Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) tied for seventh with an 8.425.
 
The Warhawks continued the meet on vault, finishing with a 46.250 and claiming six of the top seven individual scores. Senior Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) posted a meet-best 9.475, and freshman Meg McGinley (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) placed third with a 9.225. Wilson finished fourth at 9.200, and Mylin, McEntire and North all tied for fifth with matching 9.175s.
 
The floor exercise yielded UW-Whitewater's top team score of the night, a 46.600. Freshman Karina Sabol (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) led the team and won the event with a 9.425. Wilson and junior Vanessa Olinger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) tied for second with a 9.325, Mylin finished fourth with a 9.300 and Fossum placed fifth with her 9.225.
 
The Warhawks scored a 43.225 on balance beam, led by Wilson, who won the event with a 9.400. Mylin collected a 9.250 to finish third, and Sabol placed fifth with an 8.950. Olinger (7.925) and Marshall (7.700) finished 10th and 11th, respectively.
 
UW-Whitewater hosts UW-Stout for its 2020 home opener next Saturday, Feb. 1, at 4 p.m. The team will celebrate Parents Day, 10.0 Club Day and Alumni Day at Russell Arena.
