The No. 19 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team claimed five of the 10 individual matches Thursday night in a 25-20 dual loss against No. 9 UW-La Crosse in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
 
The Warhawks (8-6 overall, 2-1 WIAC) won three of the first four bouts and five of the first seven. The Eagles (6-4, 2-0) claimed the final three matches, including the last two by fall, to earn the dual victory.
 
Senior Devin Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) was the high scorer on the night for UW-Whitewater, posting a technical fall at 7:00 by a 21-6 margin. He recorded three takedowns in both the second and third periods.
 
Senior Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel), senior Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and sophomore Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) each tallied major decisions.
 
Tortorice, ranked among the top three in the nation at 125 pounds by both D3wrestle.com and Intermat, scored a third-period takedown on his way to an 11-2 win over UW-La Crosse's Sawyer Sarbacker, who is ranked ninth by Intermat.
 
Rice, ranked No. 2 by D3wrestle.com and No. 4 by Intermat at 141, totaled six points in the second period on a reversal and four-point near fall on his way to an 11-2 win.
 
Shinhoster, the nation's consensus No. 1 ranked wrestler at 174 pounds, registered two takedowns in the third period and earned riding time for a 10-2 major decision.
 
Senior Ryder Sigler (Fredonia, Wis./Cedarburg) accounted for three points toward the team total, tallying seven points in the third period for a 9-3 decision at 165 pounds.
 
The Warhawks return to WIAC action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against No. 21 UW-Eau Claire. The team will celebrate Senior Night at Kachel Gymnasium.
