Women’s Hoops This Week – January 13-19, 2020

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team looks to extend its current 11-game win streak this week as it plays two more Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games, including one away contest and one game at home.
 
The Warhawks (13-1 overall, 3-0 WIAC), who enter the week alone in first in the conference standings, visit No. 18 UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 7 p.m. and host UW-Stout Saturday at 3 p.m. for Alumni Day at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
Saturday's game will air live on UWW-TV on channel 100.1 on campus, Spectrum channel 989 for customers in southern Wisconsin and online. It can also be heard live on 940 AM WFAW in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com.

Last week, UW-Whitewater picked up two more double-digit wins in league play. The team bested UW-Stevens Point 67-49 on Wednesday at Kachel Gymnasium, outscoring the Pointers 22-7 in the decisive fourth quarter. Johanna Taylor (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) led the Warhawks with a game-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
 
On Saturday, the Warhawks turned in a complete performance on the road, shutting out UW-River Falls for a 15-plus minute span, including the entire third quarter, during a 73-41 victory. Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) tallied 14 points to pace UW-Whitewater, which out-scored the Falcons 23-0 in the third quarter.

The Warhawks remained among the top 10 in both the D3hoops.com Top 25 and Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll this week.
 
UW-Whitewater jumped four spots to sixth in the D3hoops.com Top 25, and moved up two spots to No. 6 in the WBCA poll.
 
UW-La Crosse is ranked 18th by D3hoops.com.
 
Wednesday – at UW-La Crosse, 7 p.m.
 
UW-Whitewater owns a 60-31 advantage in the all-time series against UW-La Crosse, and took two of the three meetings last season. The most recent game – a 2019 WIAC Tournament semifinal – went down to the final seconds, with the Warhawks posting a 53-51 victory. Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) scored a game-high 15 points and added seven rebounds for UW-W, which held the Eagles to 33.3 percent shooting in the contest, including a 3-for-16 mark from 3-point range.
 
UW-La Crosse (11-3, 2-1) suffered its first loss in conference play Saturday, falling 67-58 at UW-Stevens Point. Lexie Higgins totaled 13 points and five rebounds to lead the Eagles, who were limited to 34.4 percent shooting in the game and out-scored 23-12 in the second quarter and 25-19 in the fourth. Delaney Schoenenberger added 10 points.
 
The Eagles average 69.4 points per game, good for third in the conference, and allow 59.0 points per contest, good for fifth. UW-L leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage (34.5) and 3-pointers made (113 / 8.07 per game).
 
Saturday – vs. UW-Stout, 3 p.m. (Alumni Day)
 
The Warhawks are 47-30 all time against UW-Stout, including a 28-11 mark in home games. The home team won each of the two meetings last season, including UW-W's 74-60 triumph on Feb. 9, 2019, at Kachel Gymnasium. Emily Schumacher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) led the team with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists, and Raeder grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as UW-Whitewater held the Blue Devils to 33.3 percent shooting.
 
UW-Stout (11-3, 2-1) enters the week as the WIAC's No. 1 scoring offense, averaging 72.1 points per game, and allows 61.9 points per contest, good for sixth in the conference. The Blue Devils' +11.0 rebounding margin per game leads the league, and they enter the week also No. 1 in the WIAC in assists (15.43 per game) and offensive rebounding (17.14 per game).
 
The Blue Devils posted a 77-71 double-overtime win at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, tallying the first five points of the second extra frame on their way to the victory. Five UW-Stout players scored in double figures, paced by Liz Oswald, who recorded 16 points and nine rebounds.
 
UW-Stout hosts UW-River Falls Wednesday at 7 p.m. before making the trip to Whitewater.
