Men’s Hoops This Week: January 13-19, 2020

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team continues Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this week as it hosts No. 14 ranked UW-La Crosse Wednesday at 7 p.m. and visits UW-Stout Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Warhawks (5-9 overall, 0-3 WIAC) enter the week after suffering a 75-70 loss against UW-River Falls on Saturday in the team's first home game since Nov. 22. Equan Ards (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) totaled game highs of 29 points and 19 rebounds, tied for the third-most rebounds in one game in program history. Bailey Kale (La Crosse, Wis./Central) contributed 13 points and three assists, and Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) registered 10 points and four rebounds.
 
Earlier in the week, UW-Whitewater was limited to 38.8 percent shooting in a 68-54 setback at UW-Stevens Point. Kale led all scorers with 19 points, and Ards finished with 12 points.
 
Wednesday – vs. No. 14 UW-La Crosse, 7 p.m.
 
The Warhawks lead UW-La Crosse 84-50 in the all-time series between the two teams. The Eagles claimed both meetings last season as UW-Whitewater was defeated 82-63 on Jan. 26, 2019, at Kachel Gymnasium. David Sachs (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) posted 25 points for UW-W, but UW-La Crosse shot 65 percent from the floor and 82.6 percent (19-for-23) from the free-throw line to pull away.
 
After suffering its first loss of the season to open conference play, UW-La Crosse (12-1, 2-1) won back-to-back league games last week, including a 63-58 triumph over UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. Zac Haese registered 18 points to lead the Eagles, who shot 52.2 percent from the field and led by as many as 14 points in the second half.
 
UW-La Crosse averages 74.8 points per game offensively, good for fifth in the WIAC, and allows 63.9 points per game defensively, good for third. The Eagles knock down a league-best 40.7 percent of their 3-point attempts and pace the conference with 7.85 steals per game on the defensive end.
 
Saturday – at UW-Stout, 3 p.m.
 
UW-Whitewater owns an 83-43 advantage in the all-time series against UW-Stout and enters Saturday's match-up having won 12 straight games against the Blue Devils. The Warhawks edged UW-Stout 79-77 in the most recent showdown on Feb. 9, 2019, in Menomonie as Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) hit the go-ahead jumper with six seconds on the clock.
 
UW-Stout (5-9, 1-2) enters the week ranked second in the WIAC in scoring offense (79.1 ppg) and eighth in scoring defense (83.9 ppg). The team grabs a league-best 13.93 offensive rebounds per game.
 
The Blue Devils split a pair of games last week, defeating UW-Eau Claire 80-79 on Wednesday before falling 83-69 against UW-Oshkosh. Jon Ciriacks led UW-Stout with 25 points and nine rebounds against the Titans.
 
UW-Stout heads to UW-River Falls Wednesday before welcoming UW-Whitewater to Menomonie on Saturday.
