Softball’s Season Ends in NCAA Regional

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team was defeated 9-0 in five innings against Carthage in the Whitewater, Wisconsin Regional final of the 2019 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
 
The Warhawks (28-14 overall) finished 2-2 at the regional over the weekend, which they hosted for the third consecutive season.
 
UW-Whitewater posted its third consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship after finishing 11-3 against league opponents.
 
The Lady Reds (29-14) advance to next weekend's NCAA Super Regional, where they'll face defending national runner-up Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Carthage broke open a close game with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Sunday, hitting four home runs in the contest.
 
The Warhawks were held to three hits in the game. Senior designated player Kayla Seymour (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) finished 2-for-3, and junior right fielder Kaiden Jackson (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) registered one hit and one sacrifice.
 
Senior pitcher Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) dropped to 12-8 with the loss.
 
Following the conclusion of the regional, Seymour, Jackson and senior centerfielder Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Camardo, Catino, Seymour and fellow seniors Kelly Berglund (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls), Molly Ethington (Rock Island, Ill./Alleman Catholic) and Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) were all part of a four-year run that included three WIAC regular season championships, three conference tournament titles and four NCAA Tournaments, including a trip to the NCAA Super Regional in 2018.
