Softball Splits Doubleheader with Stout

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team posted an 8-2 victory in game two to earn a doubleheader split with UW-Stout Monday afternoon at van Steenderen Complex in Whitewater. The Blue Devils, who were originally scheduled to host the games but were forced to travel south due to weather, earned a 5-4 walk-off win in game one.

The Warhawks, 15-8 overall and 6-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on a two-run homer by Meg Cohrs (Elburn, Ill./Kaneland).

Stout cut the lead in half in the sixth but Cohrs pushed another run across the plate in the seventh to make it 3-1. Molly Ethington (Rock Island, Ill./Alleman Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly to center in the next at-bat to make it 4-1 after six and a half innings.

The Blue Devils rallied in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits to win the game.

UW-W sped out to a 4-0 lead after a half of an inning in game two. Nikki Mikosz (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) drew a bases loaded walk to plate the first run, and Kaiden Jackson (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) followed with a bases clearing double to left field to score three more.

Cohrs came through again in the second game, belting an RBI single to left in the third, and later came around to score and make it 6-0.

Stout tallied a run in each of the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but the Warhawks got both runs back in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 8-2. Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) knocked in the first run of the inning, and came around to score two batters later.

Camardo also pitched the first four innings of game two, striking out three, before giving way to Dani Biesiada (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) who pitched the last three frames to earn the save.

Cohrs led the Warhawks at the plate going 3-for-7 with two runs and four RBI.

Kayla Seymour (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) also collected three hits for UW-W, adding one run and one RBI to go along with one walk.

UW-W will return to action tomorrow when they host Illinois Wesleyan in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at van Steenderen Sofball Complex.
