The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team used strong performances on vault and floor exercise Friday night to defeat No. 7 Hamline (Minn.) 185.350-179.875 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee.
The Warhawks (3-3 overall, 3-2 WIAC) started the meet with a strong showing on vault and saved their best for last with their highest event score on floor.
UW-Whitewater swept the top five spots on vault and ended the event with a team score of 46.900. Junior
Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) led all competitors with a 9.550, and freshman
Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was close behind in second at 9.525. Freshman
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley) was third with a 9.350, freshman
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) placed fourth with a 9.325 and senior
Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon) finished fifth at 9.150.

Abby Helmke (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) taking the top honor with a 9.300. Sophomore
Jessi Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn./Central) placed second at 9.250, and freshman
Ashleigh Turek (Newport News, Va./Woodside) finished third at 9.125. Sophomore
Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) tied for fourth with a 9.050, and senior
Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) collected an 8.900 to finish seventh.
UW-Whitewater scored a 45.725 on balance beam and was led by sophomore
Vanessa Olinger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township), who finished third overall with a 9.300. Briscoe and Helmke tied for fourth with matching 9.275s, and senior
Frankee Hutton-Lau (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) placed seventh with a 9.150. Junior
Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) scored an 8.725 to place 10th.
Fossum posted a team-best 9.650 on the floor exercise to finish as runner-up and help the team record a 47.100, its highest score of the night. Hutton-Lau finished fourth with a 9.475, and North placed fifth with a 9.425. Olinger and Evans finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Olinger scored a 9.375, and Evans posted a 9.175.
The Warhawks head west next week as they visit Seattle Pacific for a quad meet also featuring Air Force and UW-Oshkosh. Meet time is slated for 9 p.m. Central Time.
