Men's Basketball Falls Against UW-Stevens Point

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team was unable to find an offensive rhythm Wednesday night, suffering a 65-47 defeat against UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
The Warhawks (14-8 overall, 3-8 WIAC) were held to 31.5 percent shooting from the floor and were limited to 20 first-half points in the loss.
 
Senior forward Melvin Brown Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) tallied eight points to go along with six rebounds. Senior forward Derek Rongstad (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) registered a team-high 10 points, and junior forward Riley Jensen (Milton, Wis./Janesville Craig) posted a pair of dunks and finished with nine points and a team-best eight rebounds.
 
UW-Whitewater scored the first four points of the game before the Pointers (15-6, 7-4) ran off the next 16 to take a double-digit lead.
 
Senior guard Dalton Menke (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) knocked down a 3-pointer with 7:48 to go in the half to cut the UW-Stevens Point lead to seven, but the Pointers hit three straight 3-pointers to bring their lead to 28-12 by the 6:03 mark.
 
Rongstad made 3-pointers on two straight possessions to bring the Warhawks within 28-20 with 3:25 on the clock, but the Pointers scored the final eight points of the half to take a 36-20 advantage into the locker room.
 
UW-Stevens Point expanded its lead to 23 with 11:15 remaining in the second, and UW-Whitewater was unable to cut its deficit to fewer than 14 during the half.
 
The Warhawks play their final regular season road game Saturday at UW-Stout. Tipoff in Menomonie is slated for 3 p.m.
