The second-seeded Warhawks (17-8 overall), who are ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Central Region rankings, enter the postseason with nine wins in their last 10 games. The team tied for second in the WIAC regular season standings with a 10-4 record and earned the tiebreaker for the No. 2 seed over UW-La Crosse thanks to its two wins over first-place UW-Oshkosh.

The Eagles (22-4 overall) bested sixth-seeded UW-Stevens Point 61-55 in Wednesday's first-round game in La Crosse. Delaney Schoenenberger totaled 18 points and five rebounds to lead UW-La Crosse, which held the Pointers to 31.6 percent shooting in the game and recovered from an early 12-2 deficit.

UW-Whitewater and UW-La Crosse split two meetings during the regular season. The Eagles topped the Warhawks 60-49 back on Jan. 12 at Kachel Gymnasium before UW-Whitewater pulled out a 55-53 triumph on Jan. 26 in La Crosse. Senior forward Olivia Freckmann (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) averaged 10.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in the two contests.

The Warhawks started the season with a 4-1 record, including a 78-73 victory at nationally-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Nov. 20. The team split its last six games in non-conference play, with two of the three losses coming against nationally-ranked foes.

UW-Whitewater opened its conference slate with a 67-55 win over UW-Stevens Point before dropping its next three games to slip to 8-7 for the season.

The Warhawks topped nationally-ranked UW-Oshkosh on the road in their next game, and the victory started a nine-game winning streak, which included wins at UW-La Crosse and at home against UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 4 to complete a season sweep of the eventual WIAC champion.

UW-Whitewater was downed in its regular season finale at UW-River Falls, but still held the second seed in the conference tournament and a bye to the semifinal round.
