The No. 19 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team took advantage of a strong offensive start Sunday afternoon to start the two-day JustAGame Fieldhouse Holiday Shootout with a 73-44 victory over St. Mary's (Minn.) in Wisconsin Dells.
The Warhawks (9-1 overall) led 23-7 after the first quarter and hit their first four 3-point field goal attempts on their way to the big lead.
Sophomore forward
Courtney Oomens (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) posted a career-high 15 points, and senior guard
Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) collected 13 points and five assists. Senior guard
Megan Corcoran (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) registered 11 points to match her best offensive output as a Warhawk.
Junior guard
Rebekah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) recorded nine points, freshman forward
Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) finished with eight points, and freshman forward
Abby Belschner (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) tallied seven points and seven rebounds.
UW-Whitewater finished the game shooting 48.4 percent from the floor while holding St. Mary's (1-7) to under 26 percent from the floor. The Warhawks also out-scored the Cardinals 36-10 in the paint and 18-5 off turnovers.
UW-Whitewater concludes regular season non-conference action in the tournament Monday at 1 p.m. against No. 17 St. Thomas (Minn.).
