Box Score The No. 19 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team opened the Hoop N Surf Tournament with a 53-52 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Thursday night.

The Warhawks move to 7-1 while the Falcons dip to 3-6 in their respective seasons.

Johanna Taylor (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) got the team moving in the first quarter, putting the first points on the board. The team held Concordia scoreless through the first five minutes, running up a six-point lead. With two minutes left, the Warhawks found another six-point run, when
Courtney Oomens (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) found a jumper and
Yssa Sto. Domingo (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward) made two layups.

The second quarter started in similar fashion, when the team scored 12 unanswered points to give their largest lead of the game with a 27-13 score. Concordia countered right back, finding a jumper and three three-pointers in a row to come within three points of the Warhawks with two minutes left before the half.

The third quarter was the lowest scoring of the game, where Whitewater was held to just nine points and Concordia scored ten.

The Falcons found their first tie of the game at 39 points apiece with 8:51 left in the game. Halfway through the quarter, Oomens and
Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) scored back-to-back jumpers to give Whitewater a four-point advantage. Raeder scored six more points in the following four minutes to keep the lead.

With seven seconds left on the clock, Concordia found a layup to take their first lead of the game at 52-51. Sto. Domingo was able to get the ball to
Rebekah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) for a layup to clinch the win.

Raeder led the team with 14 points followed by
Aleah Grundahl (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) with nine.
Emily Schumacher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) grabbed five rebounds and added two assists.

UW-Whitewater has a quick turnaround, facing Spalding (Ky.) on Friday at 2 p.m.
