David Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships this Saturday at the Tom Sawyer Course in Louisville, Ky.
Â
Saturday's meet, which is hosted by Spalding University, is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. Central Time.
Â
This is Fassbender's second national championship appearance after qualifying last season, where he finished 21st out of 280 runners in a time of 24:52.2. His placing earned him All-America honors.
Â
He punched his ticket to this year's championships with a runner-up finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet, completing the course in a time of 24:36.8. The top seven individual finishers from non-qualifying teams at each regional garner spots at the national championship meet.
Â
Fassbender set a new personal best time of 24:17.5 earlier this season at the Connecticut College Invite on Oct. 19. This time ranks him fourth all time for UW-W runners.
Â
One week earlier, he finished fourth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships to earn first team honors for the second straight year.
Â
Saturday's forecast in Louisville shows a high of 41 degrees with 7-miles-per-hour winds with light rain on Saturday.
Â
This is the program's sixth straight year with an NCAA qualifier. Fassbender is preceded in competition by Brett Harms (2015, 2016, 2017) and Dawson Miller (2014). Harms' highest finish was 32nd in 2016, while Miller finished 86th in his appearance.
