The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team was unable to hold onto their first half momentum as they fell to No. 7 Washington-St. Louis by a score of 90-86 on Friday night.

The Warhawks move to 1-1 in their season as the Bears improve to 2-0.

UW-W had a strong showing in the first half, as they took and never lost the lead around the 10th minute. After that, they held a 10-point run from the 11th minute leading into the 14th minute of play, putting them up 33-21. They held as much as a 15-point lead twice toward the end of the first 20 minutes.

Throughout the first half, the Warhawks were achieving just over a 53 percent field goal average as compared to the Bears' 39 percent.

Despite the lead, the Bears managed a 20-0 run from the end of the first half into the first three minutes of the second back to take back the lead.

Junior
Equan Ards (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) ended the scoring drought in the third minute, putting two points on the board to end the Wash.-U's run. But after these points, the Warhawks were unable to get within three points until :35 seconds left to play.

With these few seconds left, Ards was able to find a layup with :23 seconds left on the clock to put the Warhawks just behind at 86-84. But after a Warhawk foul, the Bears' were able to score an additional two free throws to extend their lead to four.

Freshman
Bailey Kale (La Crosse, Wis./Central) found a layup with :12 left to play, but a foul was called on a UW-W player, allowing the Bears' to shoot another two free throws. The Warhawks were unable to overcome the four-point deficit to end the game with a 90-86 score.

Ards and sophomore Kale led the offensive charge, especially in the first half, scoring 24 and 25 points apiece. Kale assisted with eight shots while Ards was able to find eight rebounds.
Freshman
Trevon Chislom (McFarland, Wis./McFarland)Â scored 13 points in 16 minutes of play. Sophomore
Jack Brahm (Bayside, Wis./Glendale Nicolet) scored ten points and added three assists and two blocks to end the game.

UW-Whitewater hosts Viterbo at Kachel Gymnasium on Saturday at 5 p.m.
