The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team enters the second half of its regular season this week as it continues Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with games Wednesday and Saturday.
 
The Warhawks (8-5 overall, 1-1 WIAC) visit UW-Stout Wednesday at 7 p.m. before hosting UW-La Crosse for Alumni Day on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
UW-Whitewater split a pair of conference games last week to start the New Year. The team bested UW-Stevens Point 67-55 on Wednesday at home, holding the Pointers to 34.6 percent shooting and finishing with a 46-20 advantage on points in the paint. Senior forward Olivia Freckmann (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) tied a career high with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds, and senior center Sarah Schumacher (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Warhawks concluded the week Saturday at UW-Eau Claire, falling 85-58. Sophomore guard Emily Schumacher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) finished with a team-high 16 points, and junior guard Megan Corcoran (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) pitched in with 12 points off the bench.
 
Wednesday – at UW-Stout, 7 p.m. (Menomonie, Wis.)
 
The Blue Devils (11-2, 1-1) rolled into WIAC play with a 10-1 mark before splitting two games last week, downing previously unbeaten UW-La Crosse 73-65 on Wednesday in Menomonie before falling 81-54 Saturday at No. 19 UW-Oshkosh.
 
Bailey Diersen leads UW-Stout in scoring with 18.6 points per game. Kyncaide Diedrich averages 14.6 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds per affair, and Amber Fabeck ranks third on the team with 12.7 points per contest.
 
The Warhawks own a 47-29 advantage in the all-time series against UW-Stout, including a sweep of the season series last year. In its most recent trip to Menomonie, UW-Whitewater held the Blue Devils to 37.3 percent shooting and ended the game on a 15-4 run in a 76-67 victory on Jan. 13, 2018.
 
Saturday – vs. UW-La Crosse, 3 p.m.
 
UW-La Crosse (12-1, 1-1) rolled through the non-conference season undefeated before opening conference play Wednesday with a 73-65 loss at UW-Stout. The Eagles rebounded Saturday with a 57-52 triumph at UW-Platteville.
 
Three players average double figures in scoring for UW-La Crosse entering the week, including Emma Gamoke (13.7 points per game), Dani Craig (11.7 ppg) and Delaney Schoenenberger (10.1 ppg).
 
Last season, the Warhawks bested the Eagles twice, including a 61-50 triumph on Feb. 17, 2018, in La Crosse. UW-Whitewater held UW-La Crosse to 32.1 percent shooting and held a 47-29 advantage in rebounding.
 
UW-La Crosse hosts UW-Eau Claire this Wednesday before making its trip to Whitewater Saturday.
