The No. 15 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team was defeated 33-17 by 11th-ranked Coe (Iowa) on the second and final day of the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals at Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Ky.
The Warhawks (6-4 overall) and Kohawks split the first three matches of the dual. Junior
Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel), ranked No. 3 in the nation, overcame an early takedown to defeat Brady Wilsie in a 9-4 decision at 125 pounds. After a Coe pin, junior
Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg), ranked eighth in Division III by D3wrestle.com, leveled the dual at 6-6 with a 3-0 decision at 141 pounds.
The Kohawks claimed the next two bouts before junior
Ryder Sigler (Fredonia, Wis./Cedarburg) pinned Lewis Robinson in 1:22 at 165 pounds to bring UW-Whitewater within 15-12.
Coe claimed three of the final four matches, all by fall. Junior
Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) earned a win for the Warhawks by forfeit at 197 pounds.
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday at 7 p.m. at UW-Platteville.
