The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team scored a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wine Saturday, besting Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) and Winona State (Minn.) in a tri-meet at Russell Arena.
The Warhawks (2-1 overall, 2-1 WIAC) tallied a team score of 183.375. Winona finished second with 182.650, and Gustavus Adolphus placed third with 180.525.
UW-Whitewater collected four of the top five score on vault on its way to a team score of 46.750. Junior
Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) led the field with a 9.575, and freshman
Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) earned runner-up honors with a 9.400. Freshman
Rachel Lewellen (Ripley, Miss./Ripley) totaled 9.375 to finish fourth, and senior
Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon) was fifth with a 9.300. Sophomore
Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) rounded out the team score with a 9.100, good for 12th overall.
The Warhawks continued the meet on the uneven bars, claiming two of the top three performances for a team score of 42.575. Seniors
Abby Helmke (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) and
Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) tied for second with matching 9.425s. Junior
Acacia Fossum (Gladstone, N.D./Richardton-Taylor) was 11th with an 8.500, freshman
Ashleigh Turek (Newport News, Va./Woodside) scored an 8.025 for 14th place and sophomore
Jessi Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn./Central) was 16th with a 7.200.
UW-Whitewater swept the top three spots on balance beam and recorded a 47.675 on the apparatus. Senior
Frankee Hutton-Lau (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) won the event with a 9.650, senior
Abby Helmke (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) was second with a 9.625 and sophomore
Vanessa Olinger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) was third at 9.475. Freshman
Emily North (Oklahoma City, Okla./Moore) posted a 9.150 to place ninth, and Fossum contributed an 8.775 for 13th place.
The Warhawks ended the day with their best event score, a 47.375 on the floor exercise. The 1-2-3 sweep included Hutton-Lau in first place (9.600), Olinger in second (9.525) and Briscoe in third (9.500). Fossum registered a 9.425 to finish seventh, and North was ninth with a 9.325.
UW-Whitewater returns to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. at UW-La Crosse.
