The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team traveled to UW-La Crosse Thursday night for another Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown.
 
The No. 14 Warhawks (7-5, 4-1 WIAC) fell in the dual 22-21 to the ninth-ranked Eagles (10-3, 4-0 WIAC). UW-Whitewater's dual winning streak against conference foes ended at nine.
 
Senior Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) started off the match with a 8-2 decision in the 174 weight class over Reed Williams, before freshman Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) pinned Will Storch at the 4:03 mark to give the Warhawks an early 9-0 advantage. The Warhawks claimed another decision as junior Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) bested Cullen Bauer-Trottier 6-0 at 197 pounds before dropping the heavyweight match to fourth-ranked Konrad Ernst by fall.
 
Junior Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) struck back with a fall at the 2:33 mark in the 125-pound bout to give UW-Whitewater a 18-6 lead.  The Eagles claimed the 133 match with No. 9 ranked Josh Stenger, before junior Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) struck back with a 2-1 decision at 141 to maintain the Warhawk advantage.

The Eagles took the next seven points to emerge victorious in the dual.
 
The Warhawks return to action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at the annual Pete Wilson-Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Ill.
