University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling senior Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy) has been named d3wrestle.com's 2018 National Wrestler of the Year.

Newman became Division III's only repeat national champion on March 10, claiming the 184-pound title for the second consecutive season. He posted a 4-0 mark at the NCAA Championship, including two pins and a 9-1 major decision over Tyler Lutes of Wartburg (Iowa) in the title bout. His performance helped the Warhawks finish ninth at the national meet.

Newman was announced as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Year last week after claiming the WIAC championship at 197 pounds, his second straight first-place finish at the conference tournament.

Newman dropped to the 184-pound weight class prior to the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional, where he tallied a 4-0 mark with two pins and two major decisions to capture his second consecutive regional championship and punch his ticket to the NCAA Championship.

A three-time All-American for his career, Newman finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 28-2 record, including a team-high 15 pins.
