The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team traveled to UW-Eau Claire for a conference match Wednesday night.
 
The No. 16 Warhawks (2-2, 2-0 WIAC) claimed an early lead over the Blugolds (0-3, 0-3) on their way to a 31-16 victory. 

Senior Sonny Schieldt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) started the dual at 157 pounds with a 10-0 major decision over Brady Bastyr. Junior Ryder Sigler (Fredonia, Wis./Cedarburg) made it 7-0 UW-Whitewater after edging Connor Hansen, who is listed in the honorable mention section at 165 pounds by D3wrestle.com, by a 5-4 margin.
 
Senior Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) won in a 18-1 technical fall over Evan Lawrence in the 174 weight class at 7:00. Freshman Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) fought through an injury at 184 to pull off a 9-4 decision. In the 197-pound bout, senior Nick Stencel (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) won by fall at 2:11 over Grant Balconi to push the Warhawks up 21-0 early. 
 
Junior Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) won the 125 over Jack Marley in a 19-2 technical fall at 4:06.  The Blugolds won three of the last four matches.  Junior Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) wrapped up the scoring for the Warhawks with a technical fall at 5:30 in the 141 against D3wrestle.com honorable mention Jake Drexler.
 
The Warhawks look to continue their winning ways as they travel to UW-Oshkosh Thursday for a 7 p.m. match.
