The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team won all four events Friday night to open its 2018 campaign with a 188.175-183.500 victory at UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet in Eau Claire, Wis.
Junior Lisa O'Donnell claimed first place in two events to lead the Warhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 WIAC), who placed the top two individuals in all four specialties and the all-around competition.
UW-Whitewater opened the meet on bars, scoring a 47.225 as a team. O'Donnell finished won the event with a 9.550 and was followed by junior
Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington), who was second with a 9.475. Freshman
Blaise Wilson (Thornton, Colo./Legacy) made her Warhawk debut with a fifth-place showing at 9.450, and seniors
Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) and
Christina Slack (Albrightsville, PA/Jim Thorpe) rounded out the team's scoring with matching marks of 9.375, good for a tie for sixth.
Senior
Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) and sophomore
Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) each recorded a 9.600 to lead UW-Whitewater on vault, where the team finished with a total of 47.375. O'Donnell finished fifth with a 9.450, Wilson was sixth with a 9.375 and junior
Erika Briscoe (Solon, Iowa/Solon) posted a 9.350 to place seventh.
The Warhawks registered a 47.700 on the floor exercise, good for their highest tally of the night. O'Donnell claimed first place honors with a 9.600 and was followed closely by Wilson, who collected a 9.575. Mierow tied for third with a 9.550, while Evans was close behind with a 9.525, good for sixth place. Junior
Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) earned a 9.450 to finish seventh overall.
Freshman
Jessi Rondeau (Norwood Young America, Minn./Central) led UW-Whitewater on the balance beam with a 9.550 as the team closed the night on the apparatus with a 45.875. Wilson finished second with a 9.400, and Hutton placed sixth with a 9.150. Mierow (8.975) and Evans (8.800) finished eighth and 11th overall, respectively.
Wilson finished first in the all-around competition with a cumulative score of 37.800, and O'Donnell was second with a 37.125.
The Warhawks continue their trip west to St. Paul, Minn., where they'll face Hamline on Sunday at 1 p.m.
