Fueled by a strong performance in the floor exercise, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association West Regional Championship for the fifth time in program history on Friday at Winona State University.
 
By virtue of their top three finish, the Warhawks will also make their 11th straight team appearance at the NCGA National Team Championship, which is set for March 31 at UW-Stout.
 
UW-Whitewater, which has won all five of its conference crowns since 2010, registered a team score of 191.850, a WIAC Championship record and good for seventh in the program record book.
 
Sophomore Lisa O'Donnell (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) earned two individual titles, taking the vault with a career high-tying 9.700 and the all-around competition with a 38.525, the No. 8 result in program history. She also finished as the runner-up on both the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise.
 
Senior Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) earned her second career individual title, taking the floor exercise with a career high-tying 9.825, good for a tie for third in the program record book.
 
The Warhawks began the meet with the floor exercise, posting a season-high 48.625, good for third in school history. Pickett and O'Donnell finished 1-2 in the event, with O'Donnell posting a 9.775, good for a tie for 10th in program history. Junior Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) also garnered All-WIAC accolades with a tie for third place on a score of 9.750, good for a tie for 14th in the school record book. Senior Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) posted an all-conference result of 9.675, which tied her season high. Junior Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) rounded out UW-Whitewater scorers with a 9.600, good for a tie for 13th.
 
UW-Whitewater registered a 47.825 on vault, good for 14th-highest in the school record book. Fiorilli followed O'Donnell in the event with a 9.575, good for seventh place overall. Evans tied for eighth with a 9.550, Pickett tied for 10th with a 9.525 and junior Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) and freshman Lauren Marshall (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) tied for 13th with identical scores of 9.475.
 
The Warhawks maintained their lead in the meet with a 47.775 on the uneven parallel bars, good for a top 10 mark in program history. Mierow and junior McKenzie Foster (Manitou Beach, MI/Addison) joined O'Donnell on the All-WIAC podium with scores of 9.575 and 9.550, respectively. Sophomore Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) tied for eighth with a 9.525, and Fiorilli collected a 9.450 to tie for 13th.
 
UW-Whitewater sealed its title with a 47.625 on the balance beam, good for a tie for ninth in team annals. Sophomore Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) and senior Mackenzie Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) tied for second with matching results of 9.625, good for all-conference honors. Pickett recorded a 9.525 to tie for ninth, Foster tied for 13th with a 9.475 and O'Donnell tied for 19th with a 9.375.
 
Following the meet, Fiorill was named the WIAC Gymnastics Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete. More information will be released on the award early next week.
 
In addition, Pickett was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
 
The NCGA National Team Championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 31, while the Individual Event Finals are slated for 4 p.m. on April 1.
