The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team, ranked 12th in NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, will host the University of Wisconsin Badgers, ranked 18th in NCAA Division I in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, this Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. at Kachel Gymnasium.
Tickets for this special event can be purchased at the door starting at noon. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for youth (under 18) and senior citizens (65 and older) and free for UW-Whitewater students and children under the age of 2. Presale is not available.
UW-Whitewater has faced Wisconsin three times in the program's history. The Warhawks visited Madison on Nov. 12, 2015, and were defeated 43-0. The Badgers were also victorious in their most recent visit to the Williams Center on Nov. 13, 2013, by a 27-12 margin.
The initial meeting in the series came on Nov. 13, 2011, a 39-3 Wisconsin victory.
The Warhawks enter the week with a 5-1 record and are coming off a 21-20 triumph over No. 1 ranked Wartburg (Iowa) on Saturday at UW-La Crosse's Candlewood Suites Duals. UW-Whitewater also defeated No. 21 Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) after opening the day with a 26-16 setback against No. 2 Augsburg (Minn.).
The Badgers are 2-0 with wins over Pittsburgh and CSU-Bakersfield on Nov. 17. UW placed 12th out of 46 teams over the weekend at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.
UW-Whitewater takes on another in-state scholarship program Wednesday when it visits Division II UW-Parkside for the annual Sake Bottle Battle starting at 7 p.m. in Kenosha.
