Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20 Women’s Basketball Routs Beloit

A total of 20 players saw action for the No. 20 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in a 77-33 victory over Beloit in a non-conference contest at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (2-0 overall) forced 38 turnovers, tied for the ninth-most by an opponent in program history and the most since 2012, and out-rebounded the Buccaneers by a 46-29 margin, including a 20-3 advantage on the offensive glass.

Senior guard Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) led a balanced scoring effort with 10 points to go along with four of the team's 23 steals in the game. Senior guard Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley), sophomore guard Becky Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) and sophomore forward Morgan Rosencrants (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) tallied nine points apiece. Rosencrants tied senior forward Andrea Meinert (West Bend, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) for the team lead with five rebounds, and freshman guard Adriana Green (Racine, Wis./Horlick) collected a team-best three assists in five minutes of action.

After Beloit (0-1) scored the first points of the game, UW-Whitewater registered 26 unanswered points, holding the Buccaneers scoreless for the final 9:40 of the first quarter and the first 3:58 of the second.

The Warhawks held their largest lead of the first half at 32-4 after a layup by Rosencrants with 2:40 to play in the second quarter.

UW-Whitewater increased its lead to 30 by the 3:06 mark of the third quarter after an old-fashioned 3-point play by Meinert. The advantage ballooned to 36 with 22 seconds left after a jumper by freshman guard Emily Schumacher (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South).

The Warhawks continued to increase their lead in the fourth quarter, and the final margin, secured with a jumper by freshman forward Kayla DeRosia (Racine, Wis./Horlick), matched the largest of the game.

UW-Whitewater continues non-league play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. as it welcomes No. 25 Illinois Wesleyan to Kachel Gymnasium. The game is the first half of a women's/men's doubleheader.
