The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team won nine of 10 matches Thursday night and improved to 2-0 on the season with a 33-3 victory at UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual in Stevens Point, Wis.
The Warhawks (2-0 overall, 2-0 WIAC) collected one fall, three major decisions and five decisions to top the Pointers (0-1, 0-1).
Senior
Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy) highlighted the night with a pin in 1:35 at 197 pounds to defeat Dylan Diebitz. The nation's top ranked wrestler by D3wrestle.com, Newman improved to 5-1 on the season.
Junior
Christian Dischler (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee), sophomore
Devin Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) and freshman Dylan Uzumecki tallied major decisions at 184, 141 and 285 pounds, respectively.
Dischler recorded a 14-6 score over Cody Nielsen to pick up his second victory of the season, and Tortorice, ranked 10th by D3wrestle.com, wore down Logan Newton to move to 6-1.
Uzumecki secured his major decision by a 13-4 margin with a takedown in the third period. The heavyweight is now 2-0 on the year.
Competing in his first bout of the season, sophomore 125-pounder
Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) tallied a 6-3 triumph over UW-Stevens Point's Ben Vosters, who is listed as a "Contender" by D3wrestle.com.
Sophomore
Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) continued his impressive start to the year at 133, improving to 4-1 with a 9-3 decision over Bobby Uttecht.

Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), sophomores
Ryder Sigler (Fredonia, Wis./Cedarburg) and
Wilder Wichman (Watertown, Wis./Johnson Creek). Bonomo, ranked 10th at 174 pounds by D3wrestle.com, registered a 7-5 decision over Dan Squires, listed in the honorable mention category by D3wrestle.com.
Sigler edged Jaden Boivin 2-1 at 165 pounds to move to 4-2 for the season, and Wichman collected his fourth win of the season at 149, recording a takedown less than one minute into his match and never trailing in an 8-6 triumph by decision.
UW-Whitewater heads to the Concordia Wisconsin Open this Saturday. Action begins at 9 a.m. in Mequon.
