The No. 18 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team emerged with a 1-1 record in a pair of tightly contested dual matches Thursday against opponents ranked among the nation's top 15 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The Warhawks (4-4 overall) downed 12th-ranked Coe (Iowa) by a 20-13 score before falling against No. 2 Ithaca (N.Y.) 23-15.
Against Coe (3-4), sophomore
Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) highlighted the dual with a pin in 4:44 against Jake Voss, the No. 9 ranked wrestler in the nation by both the NWCA and D3wrestle.com, at 174 pounds.

In the match against Ithaca (4-0), UW-Whitewater jumped out to a 12-3 advantage midway through the dual and won five of 10 matches overall.
Denny, ranked second in the nation by the NWCA and D3wrestle.com at 125 pounds, defeated James Kaishian, the nation's consensus No. 7 wrestler, by a 5-3 decision.
After senior
Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) posted a 5-3 decision at 133, Tortorice knocked off Nick Wahba, ranked fourth by D3wrestle.com and fifth by the NWCA, by a 3-1 decision.
Quartullo earned a 7-5 decision in his bout at 157 pounds, and Bonomo capped the Warhawk scoring with a 12-6 decision at 174.
UW-Whitewater continues competition at the NWCA National Duals Friday at 8 a.m. Central Time against the winner of the North Central (Ill.)/No. 21 Olivet (Mich.) match.
