The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team recorded a strong mark on the balance beam Friday night en route to a 187.950-184.300 triumph at UW-Stout in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual meet in Menomonie, Wis.
The Warhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 WIAC) scored a 47.425 as a team on the balance beam, the 11th-best total in one meet in program history, on their way to opening the 2017 season with a win.

Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) led the Warhawks on the vault with a runner-up finish and a score of 9.625. Junior
Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) recorded a 9.500 to tie for third, and junior
Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) was close behind with a 9.475, good for a tie for fourth. Senior
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) tied for seventh with a 9.425, and junior
Christina Slack (Albrightsville, PA/Jim Thorpe) registered a 9.350 to tie for 10th and round out UW-Whitewater scoring.
The Warhawks posted five of the top seven scores on the uneven parallel bars. Fiorilli placed second with a 9.375, and senior
Mackenzie Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther), juniors
McKenzie Foster (Manitou Beach, MI/Addison) and
Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) all tied for third with matching scores of 9.350. Sophomore
Bailey Fitzpatrick (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) tied for sixth with a 9.150.
Pickett totaled a 9.675 to lead UW-Whitewater in the floor exercise and place second overall. Evans and sophomore
Lisa O'Donnell (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) tied for third with identical scores of 9.325. Mierow placed sixth with a 9.250, and Fiorilli was ninth with a 9.000.
O'Donnell and Pickett tied for top honors on the balance beam with a tally of 9.575. Sophomore
Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn./Main Street School of Performing Arts) finished third with a 9.550, and Fiorili was fourth with a 9.500. Foster collected a 9.225 to place seventh.
Fiorilli placed second in the all-around standings with a 37.500. O'Donnell was fifth with a 36.350.
UW-Whitewater resumes action next Saturday, Jan. 21, at Gustavus Adolphus. Competition begins at 1 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
