CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater softball team suffered its first loss of the 2016 season Saturday, falling 1-0 in a non-conference contest at National Training Center Softball Complex.
The Warhawks' game against Whitworth (Wash.) was suspended in the top of the third inning due to inclement weather and field conditions. There is currently no make-up date scheduled.
UW-Whitewater (2-1 overall) was limited to five hits in the contest. Junior first baseman
Amy Ricci (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) collected two hits, while senior right fielder
Morgan Parise (Sheboygan/North), sophomore left fielder Mallor Klotz and sophomore second baseman
Michayla Swanson (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) tallied one hit apiece.
The Tommies (3-3) scored the lone run of the game in the top of the third inning, but UW-Whitewater starting pitcher
Stephanie Waller (Oak Lawn, IL/Richards) stranded runners at second and third to limit the damage.
The Warhawks left runners in scoring position in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The team had runners at the corners in the sixth and had the winning run at first base in the seventh, but was unable to push a run across.
UW-Whitewater continues action in Clermont Sunday against St. Scholastica (Minn.) and Elmhurst (Ill.) at 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Central Time, respectively.
