Warhawks Defeat UW-La Crosse behind Reeves' 23 Points

La Crosse, Wis. – The No. 15 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team combined a high-pressure defense with a balanced offense on Saturday afternoon to defeat UW-La Crosse 73-55 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mitchell Hall.
 
The Warhawks (17-4 overall, 6-4 WIAC) held the Eagles to 38.6 percent shooting from the floor and forced 19 team turnovers with their half-court trapping defensive attack.
 
UW-Whitewater outscored UW-La Crosse (7-14 overall, 1-9 WIAC) 31-16 in points off turnovers, while also outscoring the Eagles in bench points 49-10.
 
The Warhawks were led by senior guard Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) who had a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting including 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Reeves also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists on the afternoon.
 
Sophomore forward Kate McKay (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) recorded 15 points off the bench for the Warhawks on 5-of-7 shooting in 17 minutes. Senior Forward Lisa Palmer (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) tallied ten points and grabbed seven rebounds on the afternoon.
 
UW-Whitewater led from start to finish in this contest. The Warhawks held a 35-22 lead after the first half on 42.4 percent shooting from the floor.
 
The Warhawks finished the game shooting exactly 50 percent from the field on 28-of-56 attempts including a 41.7 percent clip from behind the arc.
 
In the second half, the Warhawks continued to score at a high rate shooting just over 60 percent for the half. UW-Whitewater's largest lead of the game (26) came at the 2:42 mark of the fourth quarter on a made 3-pointer by sophomore guard Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater). Trewyn finished the night with five points, five rebounds and three assists.
 
UW-Whitewater will return to Kachel Gymnasium on Wednesday Feb. 10th where they will take on UW-Platteville. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
