Warhawks Bounce Back with Win over UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team bounced back from three straight losses by defeating UW-Stevens Point by a score of 72-51 in a Wisconsin Athletic Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.
 
The Warhawks (13-7 overall, 4-5 WIAC) held the lead from wire-to-wire in this contest thanks to hot shooting and strong defense. UW-Whitewater held the Pointers to 27.1 percent shooting from the floor, while out rebounding them by a 33-26 margin.
 
UW-Whitewater shot 56.5 percent from the field on 26-of-46 attempts. The Warhawks had four players score in double figures, including three from the back court and one from the front court.
 
Senior guard Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) led all scorers with 23 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds, junior Cole Van Schyndel (Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown) tallied 15 points while grabbing six rebounds. Freshman guard Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) collected 12 points, while dishing out three assists and grabbing four rebounds.
 
Sophomore guard Nate Hensel (Wilmot, Wis./Wilmot Union) was perfect from the field tonight going 3-for-3 from the field including two 3-pointers en route to 11 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
 
After a tightly contested first eight minutes, UW-Whitewater extended their lead to five points on a Jerry Ngobi (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) jump-shot, UW-Stevens Point got back to within one with 8:34 left to play. The Warhawks and the Pointers went back and forth trading baskets until the horn sounded and UW-Whitewater took a 26-23 lead into the half.
 
UW-Stevens Point came out in the second half by hitting two free-throws and a basket, to get the game to within one point until Brown nailed a three at the 17:52 mark. Two free-throws by White gave the Warhawks their largest lead of the game to this point with 14:03 left to play in the half.
 
Three 3-pointers from the Warhawks two by White, and one from Hensel extended their lead to 15 points at the 6:39 mark.
 
UW-Whitewater shot 59 percent from the field in the second half to outscore the Pointers 46-28.
 
The Warhawks return home this Saturday Feb. 6th where they will take on UW-La Crosse in Kachel Gymnasium. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
