By: Christian van Helden, Athletic Communications Intern The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team defeated UW-Stout 83-70 Saturday night at Kachel Gymnasium in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
With the win over UW-Stout, the Warhawks are one win away from securing their bid to the WIAC Tournament.
UW-Whitewater (15-8, 6-6 WIAC) outrebounded UW-Stout (4-18, 0-12 WIAC) 14-9 on the offensive glass to create 19 second-chance points, and committed a season-low three turnovers during the contest.
The Warhawks had three players score in double digits. Senior guard
Haki Stampley (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) led all scorers with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, a team-leading two blocks and one steal. Senior forward
Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) dropped in 18 points, a team-best 10 rebounds and eight assists. Senior forward
Cole Van Schyndel (Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown) tallied 16 points and six rebounds.
UW-Whitewater started off hot by building a quick 14-3 lead, highlighted by a White dunk. The Blue Devils countered with a 17-11 run to cut the Warhawk lead 25-20 with 7:02 left in the half. UW-Whitewater spread the scoring around in the first half, and Stampley had 17 in the first half to give the Warhawks a 44-27 lead at halftime.
UW-Whitewater never led by fewer than nine in the second half and saw its lead grow to 18 in the closing minutes of regulation. Senior center

Zach Horn (Winchester, Wis./Winneconne) helped the Warhawks shoot 76.2 percent (16-21) from the free throw line in the second half to seal the victory.
The Warhawks play their final regular season home game Wednesday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night against UW-Oshkosh.
